Top Reasons for In-Floor Heating Installation

In-floor heating is a great idea for homes with hardwood flooring throughout. They are also nice to have in bathrooms or other rooms with hard surfaced flooring. These systems are not the easiest to install, but for those who choose to do so they enjoy many benefits.

Added Comfort

Waking up in the morning to a cold, uninviting floor can be a nuisance. An in-floor heating system eliminates this entirely. The heater works underneath the flooring providing heat directly to the floor. This can make it much more comfortable in the colder months in any room.

Added Efficiency

When you use in-floor heating systems in conjunction with a standard furnace you will find you spend less money in heating costs each month. A radiant heater installed under the flooring will create even heat throughout, and the heat distributes more evenly than it would with a standard heating furnace. This can lower the amount of time you need to use your regular heater, thus cutting back on the costs associated. Some homes can easily get away with using in-floor radiant heat as their primary source of heat as well. Since you will not have to rely on heating vents, the entire house will maintain whatever temperature you set the heaters on. In milder climates, this is an efficient way to keep your home warm.

Less Noise

Unlike forced air heating systems, radiant in-floor heating systems are completely quiet. If you choose a hydro-system, you may hear gurgling every now and then as the water heats up, but it is still far less than the noise generated with other types of heating systems.

No Cold Spots

Most homes have cold spots. These are areas where vents are not in ideal places, or large rooms with few vents. A forced air system only pushes heat through the vents, creating spots in the home that can be less temperate than others. The floor heaters eliminate this as well. The entire floor is heated, and no cold spots will be found.

Zone Control

If you are installing a new in-floor heat system throughout your home, you may have the option of installing the heat in zones. This will allow you to use the heaters only in the rooms you are occupying. The advantage of this is less wasted heat, and lower bills. The heat also generates pretty quickly, so changing zones will not create uncomfortable situations while you wait for the heat to start dispersing.

Choice of Energy

Another benefit of the in-floor systems is you will have the option to choose how you want to heat your home. A traditional air heated system will work in a similar fashion to a forced air heater, but with more efficiency. Electric heaters are also popular for in-floor heating systems, since electric is now cheaper than fuel. The hydronic systems use water to heat the floor. The hydronic heaters are more expensive and time consuming to install, but they are the most efficient type of radiant heating available on the market.
